Pether's Moon could be Melbourne bound

Sunday 22 June 2014, 3:51pm

Runaway Hardwicke Stakes winner Telescope is likely to target European races but horses which finished behind him in the Group Two race at Royal Ascot could head to Australia in the spring.

The Richard Hannon-trained Pether's Moon finished third and his owner John Manley said the Melbourne Cup was on the radar.

"I'd consider the Melbourne Cup if the trainer thought it was the right thing to do," Manley said.

"We've talked about it and lots of people have asked about it."

Forgotten Voice has already won twice at Royal Ascot and ran with credit for fourth.

The Nicky Henderson-trained Forgotten Voice made the trip to Melbourne last year but failed to get into the Cup.

"He was a miler, but he gets further now and I think he'd even get two miles," Henderson said.

"It's (Melbourne) an option. The thing is he needs quick ground and when we ran in the Caulfield Cup trying to get into the Melbourne Cup, the weather was like how it is over here and the ground turned out to be soft."
