Leading jockey Glen Boss will conduct a simple test before he decides whether to ride at Saturday's Flemington meeting.
Boss will attempt to get a riding boot on over a swollen left foot, which he injured when riding at unofficial trials on Friday morning.
The hoop's foot was slammed against a barrier upright when his horse jumped awkwardly at the start of a trial.
X-rays showed Boss chipped a bone on the outside of his foot.
"It will just be a matter of whether I can get the swelling down tonight and a boot on in the morning and ride with a bit of pain," Boss said.
"The chip in the bone is just floating there so it can't do any further harm."
Favourite backers will be keen to know whether Boss will be fit to ride the John Sadler-trained Charmed Harmony, which is the $1.80 elect to win the David Bourke Provincial Plate (1610m).
Sadler has also booked Boss to ride $6.50 hope Henwood in the sixth heat of the Winter Championship Series.
"I'm pretty confident I'll be right for tomorrow but it's just a matter of getting the swelling down," Boss said.
Boss is currently second on the Melbourne jockeys' premiership with 39 wins, 20 behind Damien Oliver with nine meetings left in the season.
Meanwhile, Damian Lane was also injured in a track accident at Flemington on Friday morning.
Lane's final mount of the trial session was walking back to its stable when the horse was spooked, throwing the jockey to the ground.
Lane's manager Dean Hawkes said the jockey was stiff and sore after landing on his back and would not be riding at Flemington on Saturday.
