Improving filly set for class test

Thursday 22 November 2012, 3:37pm

Grahame Begg will use Saturday's Rosehill meeting as a litmus test for lightly-raced filly Tigress Baby.

The three-year-old broke through for her first win last start when she came from near the tail of the field to score over 1550m at Canterbury in midweek grade.

Begg was hoping to find another three-year-old fillies race for her over a similar distance but with none scheduled, he has opted to test her in open three-year-old company on Saturday.

Tigress Lily will be one of 14 runners in the Inglis Bonus (1500m) with Begg keen to see how she handles the class rise.

"Saturday will certainly tell us that," he said.

"It was a 70 rated race last time and she won it as a maiden but she was well placed. It was only an average field, which is why we were happy to take that grade on.

"Unfortunately there were no three-year-old fillies race for her or she'd be running in that."

While Tigress Baby will be facing a class test, Begg says she has continued to make progress since landing her maiden success at what was just her third start.

"She's a good, honest sort of filly," Begg said.

"She's a bit light-framed which is why we've raced her sparingly and this will be the last start of her preparation on Saturday.

"But she has continued to improve."

Tigress Baby, Begg's only runner at the meeting, will be ridden by Glyn Schofield.
