The early European form of the imported Paederos has taken on more importance during this year's northern summer.
The David Payne-trained four-year-old goes into Saturday's 1600m open handicap at Randwick with an already impressive Australian record of three wins and two minor placings from seven starts.
He came from France as a five-start maiden but was a close second to Spiritjim at Longchamp at his third start in June last year, finishing in front of Singing.
Spiritjim beat Frankel's brother Noble Mission in the Group One Prix de Saint Cloud a week ago while Singing finished third in a Group Three race at Longchamp in May before his second to his Andreas Wohler-trained stablemate Protectionist in a Group Two race at Hamburg.
Like Paederos, Singing is now owned by Australian Bloodstock and will soon travel to Australia to be prepared for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
Those races will not be on the agenda for Paederos with Payne saying he would be kept to shorter distances.
"I've worked him out and although he raced over 2400 and 2600 metres overseas, he is not a Cups horse, he is a 1600 metre horse," Payne said.
"It takes these Europeans a while to acclimatise and he has also been gelded. I'm not sure where we go with him and at the moment he is going through his grades and doing well."
Paederos goes to Randwick 10 days after winning a 1400m race at Warwick Farm and Jeff Lloyd will replace apprentice Winona Costin.
Lloyd will also ride the Payne-trained Dowdstown Charlie in the 1400m benchmark 75 for three-year-olds in which Costin is aboard stablemate Double Eagle.
Dowdstown Charlie scored his second win from 20 starts on June 14, more than a year after his first.
Both victories have been on wet tracks but Payne is hoping he can maintain his winning momentum on top of the ground.
"I think he can be effective on firmer tracks," he said.
"He just grows a leg in the wet."
