It was a spectacular weekend for Cornerstone Stud stallion, Dalakhani, as he sired his seventh Group One winner in the UK on Friday and followed that up with a Group Two winner in France on Sunday.
Integral became the fastest ever miler to grace the turf at Royal Ascot last month and followed up her Group Two Duke of Edinburgh Stakes win at the famous meeting, with a commanding victory in the Group One Falmouth Stakes over a mile at Newmarket last Friday night.
On Sunday night it was the turn of four-year-old colt Terrubi who stepped up on his previous stakes success to land another decisive win in the Group Two Prix Maurice De Nieuil at Longchamp. This was a tremendous effort as the entire field were previous stakes winners which included two Group One winners as well as 2013 Melbourne Cup 8th Brown Panther.
Integral is the second Group One winner sired by Dalakhani that is out of a Danehill mare. Given that Dalakhani has only had 20 lifetime runners out of Danehill mares, this is proving to be a very potent cross indeed. In fact, one of the reasons His Highness the Aga Khan decided to shuttle Dalakhani to Australia is because of the plethora of Danehill line mares in this country.
Terrubi, out of a Diesis mare, is an advocate for sending mares from Sharpen Up lines to visit Dalakhani. Said Diesis mare is in fact a half-sister to the great Urban Sea, dam of Galileo and Sea The Stars.
Almost making it a stakes treble was Nuntius, a half-brother to four-time Group One winner Novellist, who led all the way before just losing out by a ½ length and finishing runner up in the Listed Bavaria Preis over 2000m at Munich. Now a winner of three from five starts, Nuntius, is Dalakhani’s 63rd stakes performer and on this evidence is clearly a rising talent looking to follow in his year older brother’s footsteps.
Four-time Group One winning Horse of the Year and European champion, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero Dalakhani served a full book of mares in 2013 at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia. He will return this spring to stand his second season at a fee of $22,000 inc. GST.
