Sydney is almost certain to win out over Melbourne if carefully placed country sprinter Rose Of Falvelon returns to city-level racing on Saturday.
A mare with a 50 per cent winning strike rate with seven wins in 14 starts, Rose Of Falvelon has been nominated for sprint races at Rosehill and Flemington.
But Canberra trainer Nick Olive will wait until the acceptance deadline on Wednesday before committing the mare either way.
"She had a gallop this morning and she worked well but I just want to see how she comes through it," Olive said.
"If I go anywhere, I will probably go to Rosehill but I just haven't made a decision.
"There's another race in Sydney the following Saturday that I'm thinking about as well."
Olive's placement of Rose Of Falvelon has been precise, resulting in a Canterbury win against her own sex and a narrow victory in the Camarena Quality on her home track - each time with the limit weight.
She has the 54kg minimum again at Rosehill in a 1100-metre Flying Welter that also includes the ex-Olive sprinter Zaratone at the top of the weights with 61.5kg.
Rose Of Falvelon resumed on a slow track to post her first win in the wet at Canberra on July 6 but her trainer remains far from convinced she is as good with give in the ground.
"She was never really under pressure so it's hard to say because she never got off the bit," he said.
There are 12 entries for Rose Of Falvelon's race, two more than the total nominations for the feature event, the $100,000 Winter Stakes (1400m).
Tromso, one of four runners for Chris Waller, is the 59.5kg topweight from Scream Machine (58.5kg), the Jason Coyle-trained galloper shooting for a hat-trick of Sydney wins.
