A shot at a rare Grand National double for jumper Sea King has been ruled out.
Sea King won last Sunday's Grand National Hurdle and trainer Patrick Payne was considering giving the gelding his chance to add Sunday week's Grand National Steeplechase as well.
Sea King was nominated for a steeplechase trial at Cranbourne on Friday to qualify him for steeplechase racing but Payne said the gelding was just feeling the effects of his Grand National Hurdle win and had already done a great job.
"We're not going to worry about going to the trials or going for the Grand National Steeple," Payne said.
"He's fought out two tough finishes and he's had two tough runs. He's done a great job. We'll just give him a good pat now and look after him."
Payne said Sea King would head back to New Zealand and trainer Kevin Myers.
Myers sent Sea King to Payne's stable last month and the seven-year-old has won the Kevin Lafferty Hurdle at Warrnambool on a heavy track and the Grand National Hurdle.
The last horse to win the Grand National Hurdle and Steeplechase in the same year was Mosstrooper in 1930.
