Toowoomba trainer Michael Nolan's plan to avoid the major part of the winter reaped dividends when he produced five winners from just eight runners late last week.
Nolan has rarely been out of the top ten trainers in Brisbane since his star galloper Laurie's Lottery won the 1999 Group One Doomben 10,000.
However, while he has had a steady stream of provincial winners he has been a rare visitor to Brisbane this season.
All that has changed in the past fortnight with Nolan clocking up eight overall winners and four in Brisbane.
He really put his foot to the pedal last week with five winners at three different tracks in four days.
Nolan started the week with plunge Eagle Farm winner Upstart Pride and then followed up at Ipswich on Friday with impressive Hi Mackay.
He followed that with Dodging Eddie and Jumbo Pride's Eagle Farm double on Saturday and put the icing on the cake with Finnomony's win at Toowoomba on Saturday night.
Nolan, who will be aiming to keep the momentum going with runners at Doomben, Ipswich and Toowoomba this week, said it had been his plan to target the late winter.
"We have a lot of young horses in our stables and they weren't really ready to come to Brisbane. But I am excited about our team at the moment and you will be seeing a bit more of me in town," Nolan said.
Nolan is very keen on Jumbo Prince who has gone for a spell after winning four races as a two year old.
"He showed us what he can do over a bit of ground with Eagle Farm wins at 1500m and 1600m. I am really looking forward to getting him out to 2000 metres later in his career."
Dodging Eddie is among the nominations for a 2100m open handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
