A drop back in grade has paid off giving Berlutti a strong win at Sale today.
Odds on favourite Tan Tat Sun was expected to turn the tables on the Mick Price trained Berlutti, after a fast finishing 4th behind him at Caulfield last start.
Berlutti relished the heavy going even though Tan Tat Sun had a 2kg advantage on him. Berlutti sat second, with Craig Newitt in the saddle and Tan Tat Sun third.
The son of Not a Single Doubt, kicked again to win by 1½ lengths.
Newitt commented after the race that Berlutti, who was having his third start this prep and fifth overall, was definitely city class.
He further comments, "He's a nice horse who's got a really good future. He bounces and puts himself right on the speed. It was nice we had a bunny there today (leader Swiss Rock). He sat on the back and picked it up pretty quick. The best part about him is the final furlong he was really strong. He's definitely metropolitan grade and the bonus with him now is he really gets through these rain-affected tracks so I think while he's going good (Mick Price) will step him up."
Berlutti races in the red colours of Blueblood Thoroughbreds, who bought him for $85,000 at last year's Magic Millions National yearling sale (pictured above). He has earned $21,500 from his five starts.
