New Zealander Pharrell has one last chance to deliver on a target his owner set earlier in the season when he contests the Mypunter.com Handicap at Caulfield.
Pharrell joined the Cranbourne-based team of Nick Harnett earlier this year with the sole aim of claiming a city race in Melbourne during his three-year-old term.
He followed well-performed former stablemate Natuzzi across the Tasman Sea and has paid his way with solid thirds at his three starts for Harnett.
"Paul Richards used to train him in New Zealand and he owns him and he's a good mate of mine so he sent him over," Harnett said.
"He brought Natuzzi over not long ago and stayed with us for a while and he decided Pharrell was a good chance to make it over here at the right time of the year."
Pharrell chased home Refulgent at Flemington on June 28 before the gelding finished 1-1/4 lengths behind Self Sense over 2000 metres at Caulfield on July 5.
Self Sense gave Pharrell 6kg in the first meeting and the pair will meet on the same weight terms on Saturday.
Harnett says the extra 400 metres would help Pharrell make up the margin on Self Sense.
"Self Sense looks like he will get over the distance and so will my bloke, he won't have any trouble with it," Harnett said.
"He's not a very big horse but he's filled out a lot since he's been here and he's got a bit more to go. We're very pleased with him."
Harnett said a lack of options would probably force him to spell Pharrell after Saturday's race.
