Group One-placed colts Jabali and Cornrow will attempt to shed their maiden tags next month after pleasing trainer Mick Price in jump-outs on Tuesday.
The pair filled the minor placings behind Earthquake in the Blue Diamond Stakes before Cornrow ran third to Peggy Jean in the Group One ATC Sires' Produce Stakes in Sydney.
Cornrow finished a close second to his unraced stablemate Volcanic Ash in his 800-metre jump-out while Jabali proved too slick for his rivals in his heat.
Price said Cornrow's physical make-up left him with more work to do to build fitness ahead of the duo's return to racing in the Group Three Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 16.
"They both trialled well but Cornrow did have a bit more of a blow after his jump-out," Price said.
"Jabali is probably the more athletic of the two and Cornrow has done well and is the grosser of them."
Both Jabali and Cornrow will trial again next Tuesday.
The colts could head to Sydney for the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) in mid-September following their likely second-up assignment in the Group Three McNeil Stakes at Caulfield on August 30.
Winning the Golden Rose would secure a lucrative stud future for either colt.
NSW breeders Kitchwin Hills and Hobartville Stud both own shares in Cornrow while Victorian operation Eliza Park International bought a controlling interest in Jabali after his Blue Diamond placing.
