Training facilities at the new Pakenham racecourse have been officially opened with racing to commence there next year.
Part of a $72 million development, the new set-up includes two sand tracks, undercover horse stalls, horse walks and two access tunnels.
Victorian premier Dr Denis Napthine, who opened the new training facility on Wednesday, also committed almost $200,000 to help purchase a new 62 square metre big-screen television and new barrier stalls.
Scott Whiteman, chief executive of Country Racing Victoria, said the new starting stalls were an important addition in regards to safety.
"As well as the new starting gates being larger than the current Pakenham version, they feature an enhanced design which make them easier to move and safer for the jockeys, horses and barrier attendants," Whiteman said.
The old Pakenham racecourse was closed in February.
