Robert Heathcote has taken out the Queensland trainers' premiership by half a win after officials took the unusual step of doing a recount before declaring a winner.
Heathcote finished with 76-1/2 Queensland winners, just ahead of Brisbane's Tony Gollan, Murwillumbah-based Matt Dunn and Mackay's John Manzelmann all on 76.
Racing Queensland's media chief Matt Johnston explained the result was so unusual and so close RQ wanted to make certain the records were correct before declaring a winner.
"There is a trophy to be presented on our biggest night of the year, the Queensland Racing Awards, and we wanted to make certain it was right," Johnston said.
"After all, it was almost a four-way tie after 12 months of racing."
The win will be a boost for Heathcote, last year's state and Brisbane premiership winner who has been holidaying in Vietnam.
Heathcote lost his Brisbane trainers' title for the first time in six seasons this year with Gollan taking the crown with 57 winners, ahead of Dunn with 51 and Heathcote with 48-1/2.
On a national scale, Dunn won 103 races, Heathcote 81-1/2 and Gollan 78.
Heathcote was Queensland's leading overall money earner with more than $4.6 million thanks mainly to the deeds of his three-time Group One winner Buffering.
