We Are stripped of Group One victory

Saturday 2 August 2014, 10:13am

Outstanding filly We Are has lost her Group One victory in the Prix Saint-Alary following tests showing abnormal levels of testosterone due to an ovarian tumour.

The tumour has since been removed and because of the unusual circumstances, France Galop will take no action against Freddy Head who trains We Are for George Strawbridge.

Head is hoping to get the filly back on track later in the year.

"It is terrible news," Head said.

"She never missed a day and was very sound. She had those three races in six or seven weeks and had never been stopped.

"We were obviously aiming her at the Prix de Diane but then this happened.

"She has been operated on and had it removed. She's back on track now and will be back in full training next week.

"Deauville is obviously out of the question now, but I'd hope to run her in the Prix Vermeille, we'll see."
