Weir picks Tigress Joy for Caulfield

Wednesday 28 November 2012, 6:14pm

Top Victorian trainer Darren Weir has pinpointed his mare Tigress Joy as the standout among a strong hand at Caulfield on Saturday.

Tigress Joy will tackle the CFV Breathless Plate (1440m) off the back of successive wins at Ballarat and Moonee Valley.

"She won well at Moonee Valley the other night," Weir said.

"She's drawn well and 1400 suits her.

"She'll be my best chance."

Weir said Tigress Joy had worked effortlessly earlier in the week in the lead-up to the race.

"She had a little soft half-mile trial at Terang yesterday and went very well and hopefully she will get there in really good order on Saturday," he said.

He also has his four-year-old mare Bia Diamond, winner of her past two starts, stepping out in the East Malvern Community Bank Handicap (1800m).

"Bia Diamond we really like. We reckon she's a nice staying mare.

"We've got Glen (Boss) on her and we're really happy with her going into the race.

"She's only been in the provincials so this is a big step up for her but we think she's a nice staying mare - whether she's quite ready for it this time, I'm not sure.

"I don't think she'll be too far away though. I'll be disappointed if she isn't there somewhere around the finish.

"I would have thought she would want to be finishing pretty close to the winner for me to be happy."

Bia Diamond opened favourite with TAB fixed odds on Wednesday at $3.40.

Tigress Joy is second elect for her assignment at $4.60 with stablemate Flying Hula a $17 chance.

Weir will also have a strong hand in the CFV Great Strides Handicap (2000m) with last start Ararat Gold Cup winner Clang And Bang a $3.80 chance.
