One of the key components in Cantonese's recent winning form could be missing when he attempts to capture his sixth victory from his past seven starts at Rosehill on Saturday.
Jenny Duggan has been aboard the gelding in his five wins for trainer Bjorn Baker but fronts an appeal panel on Tuesday in an attempt to have a one-month suspension for her handling of a horse at Kembla Grange in October overturned.
"Jenny seems to have the key to him but Glyn Schofield will ride if she is not successful in her appeal," Baker said.
"I'm happy with the horse. He's in great order and will have a good gallop in the morning."
Duggan, who is leading the Sydney apprentices' premiership, was outed for failing to take all reasonable measures to give Lady Lonhro full opportunity when the mare finished sixth in a race on October 13.
She had been riding on a stay of proceedings pending the appeal but also incurred a careless riding suspension which kept her out of the weekend's racing.
Cantonese has had seven starts since joining Baker from John O'Shea's stable and has surprised the trainer with each run.
His most recent win was over 2000m at Rosehill and he faces a similar field in Saturday's Benchmark 85 with Baker reluctant to name any bigger targets for him.
"It's just one step at a time," he said.
"He has been up a long time and keeps stepping up but I don't know how far he can keep going.
"Races like the Summer Cup are there but we'll see after he races on Saturday."
Cantonese has been racing since June and is responsible for three of Baker's four city winners this season.
