I was thrilled when I secured this colt for a price I considered to be under the odds. The progeny of Deep Field had been highly sought after at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale averaging $253,000 on the first day. This is a strong figure.
Deep Field started his stud career in a blaze of glory being the Leading Second Season Sire By Winners in Australia in Season 2019/20. He was also the leading sire of 3yo winners in Australia which was an extraordinary result for a sire from his first crop of foals ahead of the likes of Fastnet Rock, Snitzel, I Am Invincible and Redoute’s Choice.
I loved his progeny when I first saw them but the ones I liked were too expensive. He was very well marketed when his progeny hit the sales. I was keen to secure one for the right money and eventually found a chestnut filly in Perth I really liked and bought her for $55,000. This was Fituese who is Deep Field’s most winning daughter. She is an outstanding mare.
This colt is a cracking type. He is a laidback customer with the hectic sales schedule not worrying him at all. He has a great hindquarter and scope to grow into a very nice type of horse. He isn’t too heavy which is a big bonus for colts. A lot of the expensive colts are simply too heavy when they are sold. We are buying athletes.
The colt is out Flamenco of a ¾ sister to Holding who was one of our very best sprinters. I love this family and have had good success with Polish the Silver also coming out of it. My association with it goes back to 1977 when Pat Duff who I used to help trained Scomeld. She was an outstanding filly that went on to win the VRC Oaks in 1978.
Flamenco by Sequalo, the sire of Spirit Of Boom was a lightly raced fast filly that won the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes on debut and then ran in the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic where she was unplaced. She has had one foal to race with her winning twice.
I really liked this colt from the moment I saw him. First impressions are important with horses. They either catch your eye or they don’t!!!
The colt will be paid up for the Magic Millions Race Series.
