BY THE FASTEST EVER GROUP 1 WINNING SON OF TEOFILO
Import Racing is proud to announce the purchase of its very first European racehorse from the GOFFS UK Breeze Up Sale, soon to be imported to Australia with the aim of contesting some of our richest races.
It's no secret that the European Import is far superior than our Aussie counterpart. You just need to look at most of the major race results in recent times and the records speak for themselves.
What a massive opportunity this is!
Import Racing secured one of its most preferred lots of the sale, that being Lot 15 the HAVANA GOLD colt out of the HURRICANE RUN mare FUGNINA. Not only is this colt an outstanding specimen of a horse with an enormous action, he has a huge pedigree to back it up.
THE SIRE
HAVANA GOLD was the fastest and most precocious Gr.1 winning son of TEOFILO, who himself was an undefeated multiple Gr.1 winning champion racehorse and now the sire of 12 individual Gr.1 winners.
TEOFILO is a son of champion sire GALILEO, one of the world’s greatest sires. GALILEO is also the sire of multiple champions including the great FRANKEL, NEW APPROACH, AUSTRALIA and MINDING just to name a few. GALILEO is of course by the great SADLER’S WELLS.
HAVANA GOLD is out of a multiple Group winning daughter of DESERT STYLE, broodmare sire of Gr.1 winners SUDIRMAN and LETHAL FORCE. He was a GR.1 winning miler as a 3yo and a Group winning 2yo. His oldest progeny are 2yo’s and have been well received by many.
THE DAM
FUGNINA is by HURRICANE RUN who was a world champion Irish-bred racehorse. He was the second French-trained horse, after his sire MONTJEU to win both the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. MONTJEU was also by the great SADLER’S WELLS and was his highest ever rated racehorse.
FUGNINA is out of Listed winner and Gr.1 Oaks d’Italia runner up STEP DANZER. She is a winning half-sister to 4 stakes performers including Gr.2 winner FANUNALTER.
THE TRAINER
This colt will be trained by IR’s exclusive Gr.1 winning trainer TIM MARTIN out of his Rosehill stables. Tim has trained multiple stakes winners over the years including Gr.1 winners HEAVENS ABOVE, EXCEED AND EXCEL, TYPHOON ZED and REDOUTE’S DANCER, and the recent Gr.2 winner MORAL. He is also the trainer of our very own multiple city winner KING DARCI.
Tim’s natural horseman skills are second to none and the results are clearly evident in his winners and impressive strike rate.
Tim commented “Import Racing have bought yet another very nice horse for me to train. The Havana Gold colt has a real strong pedigree, especially looking back through the stallion’s bloodlines on both the sire and dam side. I loved his action in his breeze up and he appears to have a great nature about him. David has given me some very nice horses to train over the years and he certainly has a good eye for a horse. This colt looks to be another great value buy and I’m very excited to see what he can do.” TM
GOFFS UK BREEZE UP SALE
The Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale at Doncaster is the best of its kind in Europe and it celebrated a record year on the track in 2016, headed by four Royal Ascot winners.
The Doncaster Sale was the only Breeze Up Sale to achieve Royal Ascot success in 2016 and it did so with four winners; Group 1 winners Quiet Reflection (subsequently crowned Cartier Champion Sprinter) and My Dream Boat, and two-year-olds Prince Of Lir and Ardad. In a record 2016 season, the sale also sold more 2YO winners than any other European sale, with 37 horses enjoying juvenile success.

FROM THE DIRECTOR
I absolutely love this colt and I can’t wait to see him wearing our colours! He is such an athletic horse and being a later foal (April 24th), he still has loads of improvement to come which is very promising given he breezed up extremely well. He just moves so fluently and efficiently when parading and we see that emulated in his very impressive breeze up. He covers such an enormous amount of ground and I just loved how effortlessly he glides across the ground, stretching right out.
Looking at the colt physically and looking at his pedigree, I believe he will be competitive over the classic distances between 1600m to 2400m. It gives him the perfect opportunity to race in many of Australia’s mile races while also reaching the longer trips where our ranks in Australia aren’t quite as strong.
