Description

This EXTREMELY ATHLETIC COLT is a HALF-BROTHER to 3 winners including our very own HIGHLY PROMISING 3yo PRIDE OF DARCI who was ULTRA IMPRESSIVE winning on debut recently.

Watch Pride of Darci's impressive debut win - http://racing.racingnsw.com.au/FreeFields/VideoResult.aspx?MeetDate=2017Aug10&VenueCode=MTE5NTk5Mg==&RaceNumber=2&MeetingCategory=Professional&VideoFileType=FullReplay

Not only is this colt by one of New Zealand’s greatest ever stallions PINS (sire of 11 Group 1 Winners), he is also out of the half-sister to Group 1 Victoria Derby winner LION TAMER!

He comes from the great family of Group 1 winners Lion Tamer and Blue Denim and that of Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1 placed Harris Tweed.

He has a real Classic pedigree about him which is why we have labelled him our “Derby Horse”. His dam Queen of Lions has a 100% winning strike rate in the breeding barn, having produced 2 foals to race with both of them being winners. In fact Superveloce has won his past 2 races in a row and looks to be on the way up.

As previously mentioned, this colt is also the half-brother to one of our own very exciting 3yo’s named Pride of Darci, which is the main reason we purchased him. Pride of Darci is showing us an enormous amount of ability and Tim Martin has a huge opinion of him. His debut win was all class and Tim Martin expects him to be Saturday Metropolitan class at the worst. We are expecting big things from him which is why I had to have this colt also.

This colt is an extremely nice horse in his own rights too however and is quite similar to that of Pride of Darci. He broke in extremely well and our breaker Jamie Beatson commented “He was very straight forward and certainly looks to have a smart brain about him. He gave me a good feel and his temperament was perfect”.

I am very confident we have another top notch galloper in our stables with this colt but I am not the only one who believes that. His breeder Tony Rider from Milan Park loved the horse so much, he just had to keep 10% in him!! Tony still owns his half-brothers Superveloce and Savapak and knows the family can run, so he made sure he kept an interest in this colt also!

A share in this exciting colt is only $2,499 for 2.5% or $4,998 for 5% or $9,996 for 10%. The share price includes mortality insurance (paid up until 28/02/2018), all sales related expenses, Karaka Millions Race Series Nomination, Golden Slipper Nomination, breaking in plus more. You will find all of the formation expenses listed in the PDS.

THE SIRE

MULTIPLE CHAMPION SIRE PINS REPRESENTS ONE OF NEW ZEALAND’S FINEST EVER STALLIONS.

With 74 stakes winners he is not only distinguished as New Zealand’s 4th leading stakes producer of all time, but also as the very best sire this country has ever seen in terms of stakes wins registered in Hong Kong.

With phenomenal consistency, PINS averages 8 stakes winners each season – invariably, one of these 8 is a star of international repute.

PINS currently commands international attention as the sire of Hong Kong's 5x G1 winning sprinter AEROVELOCITY - a horse that has twice defied the world to win the Gr.1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint.

Before AEROVELOCITY, it was NZ’s best ever export to Hong Kong, the 2x HK Horse of the Year and 7x G1 winning AMBITIOUS DRAGON who held court. Before that the headline making likes of Cox Plate hero EL SEGUNDO, Singapore sensation WAIKATO, NZ’s record breaker KATIE LEE and so on.

All told, PINS has produced 11 G1 winners, 7 million dollar plus earners and is one of just 7 stallions in Australasia to boast a stakes winners-to-runners ratio of 7.6% or better.

PINS’ black-type prepotency is confirmed by his collection of international awards.

To date, he has celebrated 2 Hong Kong Sire premierships and has twice been honoured as the victor of the Centaine Award (global progeny earnings).

In 2015-16, PINS was Australasia’s 4th leading sire for winners-to-runners.
With a lifetime ratio of 69.6% winners-to-runners, PINS ranks in a league of his own in terms of value and elite opportunity presented.

THE DAM

This colt is out of the King of Kings mare Queen of Lions who is an unraced half-sister to LION TAMER, dual Group 1 winner of the Victoria Derby and Underwood Stakes. This is her fourth foal. Her third foal (Pride of Darci) is a 3yo and is showing us plenty of ability.

Queen of Lions has produced 3 foals to race for 3 winners;

Superveloce (by Savabeel) has won twice and placed three times in 2016/17 and was unlucky not to have won more.

Savapak (by Savabeel) has won once and placed twice from four starts in 2016/17 winning his latest outing on the 24th of March 2017.

Pride of Darci (by Darci Brahma) super winner on debut and twice placed including once at metropolitan level in 2017/18.

THE TRAINER

This colt will be trained by IR’s exclusive Gr.1 winning trainer TIM MARTIN out of his Rosehill stables. Tim has trained multiple stakes winners over the years including Gr.1 winners HEAVENS ABOVE, EXCEED AND EXCEL, TYPHOON ZED and REDOUTE’S DANCER, and the recent Gr.2 winner MORAL VICTORY. He is also the trainer of our very own multiple Saturday city winner KING DARCI.

Tim commented “In November last year I visited Waikato Stud and viewed Pins in the flesh. He really impressed me and I can see a lot of him in this smart colt. He is a forward, strong, well developed animal with that good New Zealand bone to carry him. The dam side is impressive with him being a close relative to the Group 1 winner Lion Tamer. We train his half-brother, Pride of Darci and we have a high opinion of him so we are very excited David and the team at Import Racing has secured this colt for us to train” TM

Tim’s natural horseman skills are second to none and the results are clearly evident in his winners and impressive strike rate.

THE BREEDING

This colt is bred on a 20/20 mating cross. This occurs when a pattern has two or more Graded Stakes Winners with CSI values above 20. This indicates that this pedigree is exceptional as there are at least two superior horses with a very similar pattern.

Stakes winners bred on the same cross include Group 1 winners SNIPPETS, POROTENE GEM, CASUAL PASS, SNOWLAND, SKY CUDDLE and of Group 2 winners MACKINTOSH, DECORAH, ANTONIO LOMBARDO, LEGLESS VEUVE etc.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

It was like Déjà vu when inspecting the Pins colt in Karaka this year. Just over a year ago, we had purchased Pride of Darci from the same vendor, located in the same stables, with a horse that looked nearly identical.

When I inspected the Pins colt, he gave me the same feeling Pride of Darci did the year earlier and I knew I just had to have him and was not going to leave the sale without him.

Pride of Darci has shown our trainer Tim Martin a great deal of ability and this colt reminds me so much of him.

Many people missed out on purchasing a share in Pride of Darci last year. Don’t make the same mistake this year. Don’t miss out on this colt!

I am extremely confident we have purchased another nice horse and am stoked to have him join the Import Racing team.
