Description

If there is a young sire in Australia that has grabbed my attention it is Sizzling. I was very active at the sales series during 2017 and purchased two yearlings and was the under bidder on a third. These horses have displayed great potential already with Zizzis winning the 2018 Adelaide Magic Millions 2YO Classic where she trounced a very good field. She has since gone on to win at Caulfield on Caulfield Cup day which was a big thrill for her owners and then went on to run in the 2019 $2million Magic Millions Guineas where she finished a creditable 6th after being galloped on during the race.


Sizzling was the equally best represented sire in the Guineas with three of the 16 runners which is an excellent effort considering only Sizzling 33 yearlings sold through Magic Millions in 2017. About 3000 yearlings are sold by Magic Millions each year.
The other yearling that I purchased was Addocarr who has been beaten in photo finishes at two of his past three starts. He found the rich Magic Millions Maiden a bit too hot but is progressing along nicely.


I was the under bidder on a 3rd yearling which races under the name Sizzling Belle. She is a beautiful filly, is a city winner and was placed in the Listed Black Opal Stakes. The one that got away.


In 2018 I purchased two more Sizzling fillies and a weanling by the sire. I also purchased an interest in Sizzling. This is the first time I have purchased a share in a stallion.


Sizzling


I really liked what I saw in many of the progeny of Sizzling at the sales over the past couple of years. To me it is a no brainer that he will be a success at stud. He was a terrific racehorse and precocious two years old from the most dominant sire line in Australia for the past 20 years out of a ‘black type’ mare by one of the greatest sprinters of the modern generation in General Nediym.


Sizzling’s pedigree page is very strong with a host of very good horses down the page. In fact, it couldn’t be any stronger with both the 2nd and 3rd dams being superior producers.


I love the General Nediym (1st dam), Alzao stakes winner (2nd Dam) and Without Fear stakes producer (3rd dam) down the page. Estate Label, the 3rd dam was a very high-class producer also throwing the outstanding two years old filly Loving Cup.


I must say I had a bit to do with both sides of this pedigree with Sizzling’s sire Snitzel being out of Snippet’s Lass. Both General Nediym and Snippet’s Lass were trained by Bill Mitchell when I was his Racing Manager. They were both high class racehorses with Snippet’s Lass being one of the toughest mares I have had anything to do with.


Sizzling has started out his stud career in great fashion placing 3rd on the 2017/18 Australian First Season Sire’s List and is currently 5th on the Australian Second Season List.


Andromeda


Andromeda is by Champion Sire Fastnet Rock. He has rocketed up the Australian Broodmare Sire List to 12th place and is the youngest sire represented in the top 30 on the List. Sizzling is doing the job when crossed with sons of Danehill. The smart gallopers Zizzis and The Fire Trap have come from this cross.


Andromeda has had the one foal to race with it being a 2yo winner from just two starts. Sadly, she passed away after winning her maiden in good style. The female line is quite strong with some good ‘Black Type’ winners on the page.


This colt is a cracking type and heads to Patrick Payne.
