Description

I have had great success purchasing eight winners of Magic Millions feature races since 2010. This is a great record with these eight horses costing just $424,500.


Patrick Payne has trained three of my Magic Millions winners with Husson Eagle winning the 2016 Magic Millions Sprint, Atalanta Miss winning the 2016 Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic and Zizzis winning the 2018 Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic.


They have won 35 races and $3,881,891 stakes money to date. Flying Jess, Zizzis and Hidden Wonder were purchased from the Gold Coast Magic Millions with Husson Eagle, Atalanta Miss, Rose Of Scotland and Rumeron coming from the Adelaide Magic Millions. Our Long Sali was out of the 2017 Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale.


On average I purchase about eight yearlings from Magic Millions Sales each year. About 3000 yearlings go through the Magic Millions Sales per annum so our strike rate is very good given the high quality of the opposition and the number of horses we race against.


In 2018 I syndicated the winners of the Adelaide and Tasmanian Magic Millions 2yo Classics.


If there is a young sire in Australia that has grabbed my attention it is Sizzling. I was very active at the sales series during 2017 and purchased two yearlings and was the under bidder on a third.


These horses have displayed great potential already with Zizzis winning the 2018 Adelaide Magic Millions 2YO Classic where she trounced a very good field. She has since gone on to win at Caulfield on Caulfield Cup day which was a big thrill for her owners and ran in the 2019 $2million Magic Millions Guineas where she finished a creditable 6th after being galloped on during the race.


Sizzling was the equally best represented sire in the Guineas with three of the 16 runners which is an excellent effort considering only Sizzling 33 yearlings sold through Magic Millions in 2017. About 3000 yearlings are sold by Magic Millions each year.


The other yearling that I purchased was Addocarr who was beaten in photo finishes at two of his past three starts. He found the rich Magic Millions Maiden a bit too hot but is progressing along nicely.


I was the under bidder on a 3rd yearling which races under the name Sizzling Belle. She is a beautiful filly, is a city winner and was placed in the Listed Black Opal Stakes. The one that got away.


In 2018 I purchased two more Sizzling fillies and a weanling by the sire. I also purchased an interest in Sizzling. This is the first time I have purchased a share in a stallion.


Sizzling


I really liked what I saw in many of the progeny of Sizzling at the sales over the past couple of years. To me it is a no brainer that he will be a success at stud. He was a terrific racehorse and precocious two years old from the most dominant sire line in Australia for the past 20 years out of a ‘black type’ mare by one of the greatest sprinters of the modern generation in General Nediym.


Sizzling’s pedigree page is very strong with a host of very good horses down the page. In fact, it couldn’t be any stronger with both the 2nd and 3rd dams being superior producers.


I love the General Nediym (1st dam), Alzao stakes winner (2nd Dam) and Without Fear stakes producer (3rd dam) down the page. Estate Label, the 3rd dam was a very high-class producer also throwing the outstanding two years old filly Loving Cup.


I must say I had a bit to do with both sides of this pedigree with Sizzling’s sire Snitzel being out of Snippet’s Lass. Both General Nediym and Snippet’s Lass were trained by Bill Mitchell when I was his Racing Manager. They were both high class racehorses with Snippet’s Lass being one of the toughest mares I have had anything to do with.


Sizzling has started out his stud career in great fashion and is currently 5th on the Australian Second Season List.


Idriess


Idriess is a very well related mare that has had three to race for as many winners including the good Hong Kong horse Zero Hedge. She is a ½ sister to the Magic Millions winner Karuta Queen who has thrown the stakes winner Eawase which ran 2nd in the MRC Twilight Glow Stakes in November. The first three dams have had 14 to race for 13 winners. That tells a positive story.
