FLR are delighted to release this athletic, Super VOBIS SMART MISSILE colt in partnership with trainers Mat Ellerton & Simon Zahra - out of the 4 time city winner and former Ellerton Zahra stable star Annlea.


By champion leading first season sire sensation Smart Missile out of the 4 time city winning Canny Lad mare Annlea – who was also trained by Mat Ellerton & Simon Zahra – this colt heads to the same Flemington stables and we couldn’t be more excited to add him to the team.


“Thrilled to secure this colt out of a mare we know very well! Annlea was a really talented stakes quality filly who we never saw the best of – she won impressively down the Flemington straight beating subsequent Group 1 Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner and went on to win twice more at city level before her career was cut short due to injury" said co-trainer Simon Zahra.


“Thrilled to see she's produced a ripper here and this colt reminds us a lot of Annlea at the same age - he moves really well, he has a great attitude and a lovely athletic frame with lots of scope."

Impeccably bred sire Smart Missile (by Fastnet Rock o/o a half-sister to Northern Meteor) was an incredibly talented racehorse - he was unbeaten at two and Group 1 placed at three in only a short 12 month, 6 start career.


He was the only two year old to have beaten Golden Slipper & Blue Diamond winner Sepoy in an epic clash in the Group 2 Todman Stakes after winning the Listed Breeders Plate and he then went on at three years old to win the Group 3 Run To The Rose (beating Foxwedge & Helmet) before a close 2nd in the Group 1 Golden Rose (again beating Helmet).


He’s off to a fantastic start at stud having already produced Listed Welcome Stakes winner and Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes placed SASSY 'N' SMART and Stakes placed SMART AMELIA, SMART MANOEUVRE, FROMPARIS WITHLOVE and JERICHO while FLR's own Savvy Belle showed plenty of ability early days to debut in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview and looks a promising classic mile prospect for the Spring.


“We’ve been really impressed with what we’ve seen in the Smart Missile’s and this colt is in the same mould. He’s got a lot of quality and looks a lovely prospect who will mature into a strong, impressive individual in 6-12 months time while he looks like he’ll stretch out over a bit of ground” Said FLR’s Ashleigh Dowley.


“Love that he is out of a Canny Lad mare also. She was talented Annlea winning 3 races in town at each of Flemington, Caulfield and Moonee Valley and $150K in prizemoney from only 12 starts. She was a mare going places before suffering an injury in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (won by Lady Lynnette) so we never saw the best of her but she's thrown a lovely colt here”.
