Lee Freedman has welcomed his first winner since he rejoined the training ranks less than a week ago with Java successful at Kilmore.
The five-time Melbourne Cup winning trainer stepped away from the family business three years ago, handing it over to his brother Anthony.
The two are now in partnership in what Lee Freedman has described as a boutique operation.
Java, a Godolphin three-year-old, won an 1100m maiden on Tuesday by 2-1/4 lengths to kick-start the new venture.
When he announced his return, Freedman said he had unfinished business in the sport and had missed the lifestyle.
Freedman has trained 124 Group One winners and won seven Victorian premierships.
As well as his Melbourne Cup wins, the Hall of Fame trainer has prepared the winners of four Caulfield Cups, four Golden Slippers and two Cox Plates.
Lee Freedman is based at Flemington while Anthony is at the family property on the Mornington Peninsular.
