As one Victorian jockey is about to head overseas another has returned to take his place.
Craig Newitt rides at Sandown on Saturday before departing for Singapore while Luke Currie has returned from a six-month sojourn in Mauritius.
Newitt has a six-month contract to ride in Singapore from January 1 but hopes to be granted permission to ride trackwork soon after his arrival next week.
One of the busiest riders in Australia over the last four years, Newitt has ridden at the Singapore Gold Cup meeting in recent years and is looking for a change.
"Over the last three or four years I've had more rides than most in Australia and while it's been good I thought it was time for a change and it's just something that I think the family is ready for," Newitt said.
He hopes to make his mark and stay in Singapore long-term, while at the same time return to Australia for important rides.
Currie returned from Mauritius during the week and was set to make his return at Sandown, but his lone mount Hero Master has been scratched and instead Currie will return at Traralgon on Sunday.
Hero Master provided Currie with his last mount in Victoria before going away.
"I was going to have a week off but I came back early to ride him," he said.
Currie isn't sure where he would be based and will give himself a couple of weeks to sort that out.
"I did some riding for Robbie Griffiths (at Cranbourne) before I went away, so I'll just wait a little bit and see where I can slot in," Currie said.
"Maybe with Christmas coming up and a few going away I might be able to get a better idea then."
