This week we had the privilege of interviewing Hancox Bloodstock Racing Manager Rod Peacock to find out what Hancox Bloodstock look for when purchasing horses for syndication and what his career highlights have been to date.
When selecting horses for syndication, what specifically do you look for?
Soundness, Athleticism and VALUE FOR MONEY
What is your favourite part of running a racing syndicate?
Seeing the joy a win brings to new owners and educating them about the racing industry
Who has had the biggest influence on your career in the Thoroughbred Industry?
I have worked with Shelley Hancox since 1998 and she is obviously the biggest influence on my career.
When selecting a trainer, which things do you take into consideration?
Competence – must have shown the ability to train winners and get the most out of a horse.
Communication – if the trainer does not communicate it makes it very difficult to keep our owners informed.
Marketability – we need to be able to sell the trainer as well as the horse to prospective owners.
What is your most memorable moment as a syndicator thus far?
The day Belong To Many won a stakes race at Caulfield – there was around 100 owners there on the day and they all made it into the Mounting Yard for the presentation and a photo. The overwhelming joy on their faces was priceless. The fact they’d backed her at 20/1 did contribute to the excitement.
