Plateau Gold on target for Bat Out Of Hell

Sunday 21 December 2014, 5:58pm

Plateau Gold is on target for back-to-back win in the Bat of Hell, a race regarded as the short course championship of Queensland.

The gelding executed the first half of a well laid-out plan by Coffs Harbour trainer Jim Jarvis when he won at Doomben on Saturday ahead of the 900m dash on January 3 at the Gold Coast.

Plateau Gold went to Doomben for his first start in 306 days when he won the Girls Day Out Hcp (1050m).

Jarvis said he had been forced to give Plateau Gold a long break after he put his foot in a hole in February.

"Rather than break him down we gave him three months off but that stretched into a much longer break," Jarvis said.

He said Plateau Gold had been in work for 20 weeks in the lead up to Saturday's race.

"Now it is on to the Bat Out of Hell. I am confident he can make it back-to-back wins."

Northern Rivers apprentice Kasie Stanley, who is indentured to Grafton trainer Mark Lynch, scored her first Brisbane win at her first ride in the city on Plateau Gold.

The day wasn't a complete success as stewards reprimanded her for causing tightening on the first turn.

It was still a big day for Stanley who Jarvis rates a most promising rider.

"I use her whenever I need to claim on a horse," he said.

"She rides a lot of winners around the Northern Rivers and isn't out of place in town."

Plateau Gold has been lightly raced and his 14 starts have produced seven wins from 807 metres on his home track to the 1050 metres of Saturday's Doomben event.
