Price trio to take aim in Lord Stakes

The market indicates Mighty Like is clearly the leading hope of the Mick Price stable in the Lord Stakes but the trainer is not as convinced.

Price has three runners in the Listed 1600m race at Sandown on Thursday with race favourite Mighty Like joined by Tango's Daughter and Aeratus.

Mighty Like is the $4.40 favourite with Tango's Daughter at $9 and Aeratus $18.

While bookmakers have warmed to Mighty Like, Price believes there is not a lot between his charges.

"Mighty Like and Aeratus go to the mile and they are both really nice horses and they'll both be suited on the big track," Price said.

"I worked them together on Tuesday morning. They worked a strong 1200 metres and the lads on them couldn't tell me which one was going better and they went over the line together.

"I don't know which one is the better horse, but they're both nice horses."

He said if pressed he might lean to Aeratus as having slightly more talent.

But Mighty Like has a fitness advantage over his stablemate for Friday's race having won his two starts this campaign while Aeratus is second-up.

Tango's Daughter was a Group Two winner in Adelaide earlier this year and wasn't beaten far in stakes races during the spring.

She has been freshened since her last-start fourth over 2040m at Moonee Valley late last month.

"Tango's Daughter is already a black type winner in Adelaide. I think it's a nice race for her," Price said.

"I think she's capable of running in the first three or four."

Mighty Like, to be ridden by Dean Yendall, has seven wins from his 14 starts and defeated stablemate Ringo by three-quarters of a length at Flemington on December 13 to notch his second-straight win of the campaign.

Aeratus resumed with a midfield finish over 1300m at Sandown earlier this month in his first start since a mid-year campaign which netted five wins and a second from six starts.

The Mike Moroney-trained Saint Or Sinner has been scratched from the event, one of two Listed races on the Boxing Day program with the other the Christmas Stakes.
