Cobblestones continues Moloney form surge

Friday 26 December 2014, 2:36pm

Caulfield trainer John Moloney continued his impressive run of form when Cobblestones won at Sandown on Friday.

Cobblestones' victory in the Alan Wicks Handicap was Moloney's 15th win from his past 50 starters.

Ridden by apprentice Jye McNeil, Cobblestones was supported from $4.40 into $3.90 before scoring a half-length win over Honfleurs ($7), trained by Moloney's younger brother Gerard.

Moloney said he has been scratching his head over past weeks searching for the secret of his recent run of success hoping that it may continue.

"Sometimes it falls into place and you've got to make the most of it, because the other side, we know too well," Moloney said.

After winning at Seymour in October, Cobblestones followed up with placings at Bendigo and Moonee Valley before a disappointing run at Flemington.

Moloney put the poor performance down to a wide barrier.

McNeil had Cobblestones up riding the speed in the seven-horse field and defied the opposition to run her down.

"She's got a good pedigree so to win a city race is great," Moloney said.
