Ragazzo Del Corsa is the latest smart juvenile winner for James Winks this season but the colt isn't the best the jockey has ridden.
The talented Danny O'Brien-trained colt Ragazzo Del Corsa appreciated Flemington's wide-open spaces in Saturday's Better Beyond Plate and put himself in the frame for a Blue Diamond campaign with a two-length win over Helsingor.
Helsingor ($6) impressed in her debut after striking trouble shortly after the start which left her with a big job to do.
Winks already this season has won on boom colt Headwater and also claimed the Maribyrnong Plate on Ragazzo Del Corsa's stablemate Prompt Return.
Ragazzo Del Corsa finished third on debut at the smaller Moonee Valley circuit behind impressive filly Secret Agenda.
But O'Brien and Winks, who didn't ride him at the Valley but watched the race closely, expected the colt would be better at Flemington.
"Obviously he's not a Moonee Valley horse," Winks said,
"But he trialled really well here the other day so that (win) was no surprise.
"He's maybe a touch below the two good ones I've been fortunate enough to ride but he's very progressive."
