Tashbeeh win confirms Dubai carnival plans

Saturday 17 January 2015, 2:46pm

Three-year-old Tashbeeh has earned himself a trip to Dubai for the rich racing carnival after returning from a let-up to score a convincing win at Flemington.

The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained colt is raced by Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Stud and Dabernig said the son of Commands was bound for the Dubai carnival.

"Sheikh Hamdan has requested to have a couple of horses of ours to represent him in Dubai and I think off the back of that win he's probably earned himself a ticket to go," Dabernig said.

"He's a horse we've always known has had potential but it's just taken a bit of time.

"He had a big weight today and he took off early and was exposed, but he still ran through the line."

Tashbeeh ($5) resumed from an eight-week let-up in the Seascay Handicap and after racing wide he sprinted quickly in the straight and scored by three-quarters of a length over Bayoonah ($3.80) with half a length to Herstory ($4.80) third.

Dabernig said the Listed Meydan Classic (1400m) on February 26 was a likely starting point for Tashbeeh.

The UAE Derby (1900m) is on World Cup night on March 28 and Dabernig said a lot would depend on how the colt performed when he got to Dubai.

"At this stage he's the only definite, but there's a chance that maybe Tawteen and maybe Shaf might also go," Dabernig said.
