Godolphin 2YO firepower continues to grow

Saturday 17 January 2015, 3:04pm

Godolphin is already a major player in this season's juvenile races and Holler has added his name with an impressive debut win at Randwick.

Ottoman and Furnaces head the market for the Golden Slipper but the $3.5 million showpiece at Rosehill is unlikely for Holler who will be aimed at longer than 1200m.

Godolphin's bloodstock manager Jason Walsh said the fact he could win over 1100m on Saturday spoke volumes.

"He will benefit from the race experience because our view has always been he would be better over seven furlongs to a mile.

"The Sires' and the Champagne Stakes would be the races we hope he gets to."

The Group One Sires' and Champagne are over 1400 and 1600m respectively.

The start of Saturday's race was delayed when Unsinkable refused to load, robbing apprentice Erhan Kacmaz of his first ride at Randwick.

When the race did get underway, plunge punters were on the back foot when the heavily supported Fireworks came out a long last after being backed from $14 to $4.80.

At the other end of proceedings, Holler, the $3.80 favourite, assumed the early lead with James McDonald letting Gigolo go past him briefly around the home turn.

Holler found his next gear to go to the line 1-1/4 lengths ahead of Encosta Line ($20) with Fireworks rattling home down the outside to claim third another three-quarters of a length away.

The winner is by prolific sire Commands who died at Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud last year.

At his only public barrier trial, Holler finished a half length second to stablemate Hapter who will have his first start next Saturday.
