The weather will determine whether Timeless Prince makes the leap into stakes company or runs in a benchmark race at Randwick.

Gosford trainer Tony Newing is covering the bases, with the five-year-old to run in the Listed Carrington Stakes if rain comes or a benchmark race if the track is firm.

Either way, Timeless Prince will be running over 1400 metres on Saturday at the scene of his latest win on January 10.

"If it is wet he will run in the Carrington but if it's dry he will run in the other race," Newing said.

"On a wet track I think it brings the others back to him but he's not quite up to that grade on a firmer track.

"I'll play it by ear. There is some rain forecast. He hasn't seen that many wet tracks but when he has he's loved it."

Finishing Card was a late addition to the Carrington entries on Tuesday with last-start Magic Millions Cup winner Spurtonic heading the 14 on 59kg.

Timeless Prince is on the 54kg limit with Newing to wait to see which jockeys are available if that is the race he decides to run him in with Samantha Clenton booked for the benchmark race.

Timeless Prince won a benchmark 80 over his best distance of 1400m at his most recent start in a race from which stablemate Lester's Home was scratched.

Newing decided against running Lester's Home on a seven-day back-up and instead sent him to Canterbury to run over 1550m four days later.

Lester's Home finished seventh, convincing the trainer that although he had previously won over 1600m, he was better over shorter distances.

Because of that, Newing will bring him back to 1250m at Canterbury's public holiday meeting on Monday.

"I came to the conclusion that he's not really a 1600 metre horse even though he has won over it," he said.

"I have a big opinion of him and think he can measure up to maybe a Listed 1400 metre winter race."
