Another 2yo winner for Godolphin

Saturday 24 January 2015, 2:12pm

John O'Shea will head to Dubai for a meeting with his boss Sheikh Mohammed on a high after producing his eighth individual two-year-old winner of the season.

The head trainer for Godolphin Australia said it would be a flying visit to update the Dubai ruler on the progress of the team which now includes another Golden Slipper hopeful, Haptic.

The colt was an easing favourite in the 2YO Plate at Randwick on Saturday, drifting from $1.60 to $2.20 but James McDonald had the race in his control after steering the colt to the fence early.

The colt cruised to the line under a hold to beat Counterattack ($12) by a half length with Sebring Sun ($2.70) another 2-1/4 lengths away.

"It will be nice to go to Dubai to pay my respects," O'Shea said.

"I have only met Sheikh Mohammed once and it will be good to go in the lead-up to the carnival to update him.

"It will just be a short visit."

Ahead of his first start on Saturday, Haptic beat stablemate Holler in a barrier trial with the latter a winner on debut a week ago.

"The likely plan for Haptic is the Lonhro Plate and then the Skyline Stakes to try to get into the Golden Slipper," O'Shea said.

"We are looking at the Black Opal in Canberra for Holler."

O'Shea is targeting Australia's two richest juvenile races with four runners at Monday's Sandown meeting.

Mesa and Demonstrate will run in the Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings at Sandown with Promenades and Pursuits to line up in the fillies division.

He will have Salt Flat in the two-year-old race at Canterbury on the same day.

The $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) is at Caulfield on February 28 with the $3.5 million Golden Slipper at Rosehill three weeks later.

Godolphin's Ottoman is the $6 Slipper favourite ahead of stablemate Furnaces.
