Stayers going super: Keys

Sunday 25 January 2015, 1:53pm

While quality three-year-old Rich Enuff has had a slight setback his trainer Ken Keys has two stayers in work looking for autumn riches.

An elevated white cell count forced Keys to ease up on Rich Enuff while he was being prepared for a first-up tilt at Saturday's Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley won by Mourinho.

On the other hand, the Cranbourne-based trainer said there had been no problems with Bring Something and Like A Carousel as they prepare to return to racing.

He said both horses were due to trial at Cranbourne on Thursday and would have another trial before their first-up runs.

Keys said Bring Something was likely to run first-up in the Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on February 28 while Like A Carousel was being set to resume in the Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m) at Caulfield on the same day.

Bring Something, a progressive stayer, won a 2400m race at Caulfield during the spring carnival before winning the Bendigo Cup (2400m) on October 29.

He was then spelled after running fifth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington (2600m) on November 8.

Like A Carousel has not raced since finishing second to Renew in the Sandown Cup (3200m) in November after winning the Harry White Classic (2400m) at Sandown earlier in his preparation.

Keys said the pair would both head to Sydney afer their Melbourne campaigns with Bring Something to head to the Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 14 and Like A Carousel to the Mornington Cup (2400m) a fortnight later.

"Both horses are going super," said Keys.

"They'll trial on the 29th and have a couple of trials before they're ready to race towards the end of February.

"They'll have a couple of runs in Melbourne and then head up to Sydney."
