Weather watching helps Tibrogargan Miss

Monday 26 January 2015, 2:36pm

Trainer Daryl Hansen's smart decision to note long range weather forecasts helped his first starter Tibrogargan Miss score a runaway win on Monday.

Tibrogargan Miss had been well backed in pre post markets to win at Doomben on Saturday but that meeting was washed out.

Hansen had been worried about the forecast for heavy rain and also entered Tibrogargan Miss for the Ultiqua Resorts Two Year Old (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast metropolitan class meeting.

Tibrogargan Miss ($2.30) bounced straight to the lead and strolled home to a three lengths win over Monaco Playboy ($31).

"She's shown me a fair bit of ability at the trials and while it was hard to gauge what she beat in the trial she did it in comfort," said Hansen, whose two-year-old Le Chef won the Magic Millions Classic two weeks ago.

Tibrogargan Miss is bred for pace being by noted speed sire Monsahee Mountain out of a sister to the former top Queensland sprinter Buck's Pride.

Jockey Tegan Harrison scored her sixth win in the past week aboard Tibrogargan Miss.

"She is very quick and they never got near her," she said.

Tibrogargan Miss picked up a $24,500 QTIS bonus on top of the $32,000 first prize and is likely to chase more QTIS money in coming weeks.

Meanwhile, apprentice Brigid Grylls got her season back on track with her first win from a suspension on promising Heart Smart ($2.70) in the Ray White Hcp (1000m).

Grylls had been third on the senior riders premiership, but slipped to sixth during a recent suspension.

Heart Smart, which has missed a place only once in 10 starts, is likely to step up in distance after his powerful finish to win.
