Sky secures NSW racing media rights

Wednesday 28 January 2015, 3:46pm

The Tabcorp-owned Sky Channel has secured the media rights to NSW thoroughbred racing for the next decade.

The long-term deal, announced on Wednesday, encompasses domestic and international media rights.

Sky Racing will also have non-exclusive digital rights which will allow NSW racing to be broadcast on various websites along with Sky Racing and TAB apps.

"Sky Racing is delighted to have finalised binding heads of agreement for the long-term media rights for NSW thoroughbred racing," Tabcorp managing director and CEO David Attenborough said.

"We look forward to continuing to expand the reach of NSW racing both domestically and internationally."

Tabcorp also confirmed it had reached agreement to have Sky Racing's showcase thoroughbred channel, Sky Racing World, included in Foxtel's basic package.

The channel is currently charged at an additional $5 a month but that fee will be scrapped in the coming weeks and the channel made available to all Foxtel subscribers.

Negotiations for non-exclusive broadcast rights to Victorian thoroughbred racing are continuing.
