Gracious Prospect has landed the fifth Melbourne city win in the space of 24 hours for the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig training partnership in the final race at Flemington.
The Lindsay Park team had three winners at Moonee Valley on Friday night, highlighted by the exciting three-year-old filly Sistonic, and bookended Saturday's meeting at Flemington with Wawail and Gracious Prospect.
Wawail resumed in the Pack A Picnic Plate and was labelled a Group One horse in the making by jockey Michael Walker after the filly remained unbeaten in four starts.
While Wawail scored by a length in the opener, the finish was much tighter in the final race as Gracious Prospect ($3.80 fav) got home by a nose after a length-of-the-straight battle with Laohu in a 1420m handicap.
It also brought up a winning double for Walker and Hayes praised the ride, believing the jockey lifted the gelding to victory.
"I think Michael Walker needs a pat on the back. I think it was his strength that got him over the line actually," Hayes said.
