Race 1 at Grafton on Monday afternoon saw 14 runners line up on a Soft 5 surface to compete in the Daily Examiner Maiden Plate 1002m.
Dynamic Syndications had 1 runner engaged, the unraced 3yo gelding HAIR OF THE DOG (by Tale Of The Cat / Hot Ticket) (aka HOT DOG) jumping from barrier 9 with TEGAN HARRISON aboard carrying 58.0 kgs.
Dreams came true for a wonderful group of long time, loyal Dynamic clients as their horse led from start to finish easing down the last 30m and also giving weight to both the runner-up and third placed horse, to record a slashing 2.3 length win in a slick 58.17 coming home in 34.03.
Jockey Tegan Harrison gave Hot Dog the perfect front running ride and “Hot Dog” did the rest with ease.
Hair Of The Dog “Hot Dog” had originally been syndicated with trainer Darren Smith however was subsequently relocated to Gerald Ryan who did a terrific job with him, bringing the horse along quietly and surely. He always showed ability but just needed a little time to develop into his frame.
After two trials in this preparation, unselfishly Gerald advised the team he would be capable of winning around Sydney however he was still 6-12 months away from the physical maturity needed to be winning in town. However if we sent the horse north to our trainer Matt Dunn at Murwillumbah, Hot Dog would be very competitive immediately and will keep getting better as he got older.
Our owners voted on the move and in a blink, Hot Dog was on the truck to Matt Dunn. The rest is now statements of fact:He came – he saw – he conquered ! He gave them weight, he did all the hard work upfront, he won eased down and recorded a margin of 2.3 lengths and he set a class record.
Matt turned the horse out in superb condition and his fitness was spot on.
The fact that it was Grafton not Randwick certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our owners as they bank a first prize cheque and a BOBS bonus as well.
It’s always exciting for any team of owners to see their horse win on debut. This was certainly the case today as a ring around to all our happy team was very rewarding.
To win in class record time is also exciting and to be offered a luxurious $5.00 Starting Price was very sweet.
We congratulate a big team effort: Trainer Matt Dunn / Matt’s dedicated staff / jockey Tegan Harrison / Hot Dog’s previous trainer Gerald Ryan & All the Owners who backed the decision to send Hot Dog north to Murwillumbah. Already it has paid dividends with hopefully many wins available in the future.
Whilst the cheers were loud and far, the biggest cheer was heard at Rosehill emanating from Gerald Ryan’s stables as his staff celebrated the win of Hot Dog as he had developed a bit of a cult following based upon his "laid back dude" personality.
HOT DOG was purchased at the Inglis Classic Sale in 2013. He was a $40,000 purchase by Dynamic Syndications and it looks like his team of owners have a lot more fun in store.
