Tony Gollan's 50th Queensland winner for the season has also delivered the top trainer with a career-first.
Hi I'm Back firmed from $3 into $1.95 before scoring a runaway 5-3/4 length win in the Ray White Ipswich Handicap on Wednesday.
It is the first time Gollan can recall winning an 800-metre race in his decade-long career.
"I'm not really one to train my horses for 800-metre races but this looked perfect for Hi I'm Back," Gollan said.
Hi I'm Back ran a class record time of 45.19s but Gollan is sure the gelding is not just a speed horse and can win over further.
The three-year-old also continued the good recent form of jockey Tegan Harrison, bringing up her 11th win since New Year's day.
"He was much too good for those and he might have a future," Harrison said.
Harrison made it an early double when she replaced the ill Anthony Merritt aboard Dutch Treat ($2) to claim The Queensland Times Plate (1200m).
Trainer Trevor White said Dutch Treat had been forced to race back in the field from wide barriers at her first two starts and was ridden closer to the speed than he expected on Wednesday.
"(Victorian trainer) Shaun Dwyer sent her up to me to have a bit of fun with. She has given us some thrills and she will go for a spell now," White said.
