Atalanta Miss winning in Adelaide

It is hard to believe we are well in to February and that we are only a month from the Adelaide Magic Millions Sale where we have had good success in recent years buying Unique, Husson Eagle, Rumeron and Atalanta Miss.  In fact we have purchased six yearlings at the past three sales with all six winning.

Next Wednesday Night is Magic Millions night in Launceston and we will be represented by Atalanta Miss in the Two Year Old Classic and Rumeron in the Three Year Old Classic.  I expect both to run very well.

Our company is not renowned for punching out our 2 year olds but having written that we do get our fair share of juvenile winners.  On Monday we stepped out Bridie’s Brook, a Hinchinbrook filly I purchased as a weanling from Yarraman Park at the Randwick barrier trials and she was very impressive running a strong finishing second in a good trial.  She may well head to the races in the next two weeks so keep an eye out for her.

KRIS LEES

Kris Lees has really started to cement his position as one of Australia’s very best trainers.  In the next moth he has some very high profile runners and I’m sure you all wish him well with these.  I have been completely satisfied with the results Kris has achieved for us since we started together back in November 2005.  He is the complete trainer and can train any type of horse whether it be a precocious two year old or Group 1 staying horse.

His decision to purchase Ellalong Farm a few years ago was a ripper.

I was approached at the Magic Millions to see if I would support a well-known Sydney female trainer but was happy to reject the offer.  I couldn’t be happier with the job Kris, John Thompson and Tony McEvoy are doing for us with our NSW based horses.

ON THE TRACK

This spotlight for us is on Tasmania in the coming week with Awasita, Atalanta Miss, Pitt Street, Rumeron, Hot To Trot, Hail Maher and Princess Royale running.

INGLIS CLASSIC AND TASMANIAN MAGIC MILLIONS SALES

The Inglis Classic Sale gets under way this weekend.  I found a couple of nice fillies during my inspections earlier in the week and will post any horses I purchase on the website.

I’m very happy where I am at with our yearling purchases with 13 already on our books and most of these almost fully subscribed.

I will be attending the Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale on 12 February in Launceston.

HINCHINBROOK / MARITESS FILLY JOHN MOLONEY TO TRAIN AT CAULFIELD - FOUR SHARES REMAIN

The filly

This filly is a strong well balanced athlete that gets around well and has a nice presence to her.  She is very strong behind and through the hocks.  She has a deep girth and looks like she may go early as her dam did.

She vetted out without any issues and was reared at Milburn Creek one of the NSW’s most well respected boutique nurseries.

The filly is a September foal and I have decided to pay her up for the rich Adelaide Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic.

To date the best horse to race by Hinchinbrook is Carriages with his two winners being fillies.

The filly went to Yarraman Park after the sale for a break with Harry Mitchell calling me to say she was ‘one of the best buys of the Magic Millions Sale’.

Hinchinbrook

Hinchinbrook was a high class juvenile winning the Group III AJC Skyline Stakes and Listed Canonbury Stakes before being the first colt home when fourth to Crystal Lily in the Group I STC Golden Slipper and was then third in the Group I AJC Sires Produce Stakes.

He trained on at three for Group I placings in the AJC All Aged Stakes, MRC Oakleigh Plate and MVRC William Reid Stakes, before being injured in the UK while preparing for Royal Ascot and retiring with earnings in excess of $590,000.

He is a three-quarter brother to leading young sire Snitzel and Group III winner Viennese by champion sire Fastnet Rock from stakes-winning sprinter Snippets’ Lass.

His progeny have hit the ground running with him being placed 2nd on the First Season Sire’s List in Australia and was the only First Season Sire to have a runner in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast where he was represented by the early favourite Carriages.

Maritess

Maritess was a fast Magic Albert stakes placed winner of two, two year old races.

Maritess is a ½ sister to the Group 3 and multiple stakes winner Come Fly With Me.  Maritess has had three foals to race for two winners.  The 3rd dam is the outstanding Group 1 wining mare Dinky Flyer.

It is only early days for Magic Albert as a broodmare sire but he is having good success crossing with Danehill line mares.

HUSSON/ HEAD OVER HEELS FILLY TONY GOLLAN TO TRAIN AT EAGLE FARM -FOUR SHARES REMAIN

The filly

This is an outstanding type of filly representing one of the very best crosses in Australia at present.  The filly vetted out without any issues and was highly regarded as a type by both Bill Mitchell and our vet Tim Roberts.  I am thrilled to have secured her and look forward to her getting to the races.  She is a cracker of a filly and looks a two year old type to me.

Husson

The filly is by Hussonet’s best son at stud in Husson and is a product of one the most potent crosses in Australia today.  When Hussonet and now his sons are put over Danehill line mares the results have been amazing.

Danehill line mares mated with Husson have the stakes horses Hussousa, Affable, Will Be Amazed, Sister Souss, Peron, Hi Son, Star Of Husson and Little Miss Smiley. There is also a filly Go Again which held the 900m record at Sandown out of a Danehill Dancer mare.

Husson's sire Hussonet also has similar success with the Group 1 winners Reaan, Eagle Falls, Gold Trail and Group and stakes winners Colorado Claire, Miss Darcey, Step it Up, Karacatis, Latin News, Members Joy, Rose Of Peace, Werd, Hussy By Choice, Walk With Attitude, Dirty and Moonlight Hussler coming out of Danehill or his son's daughters.

It should be remembered Hussonet came to Australia as a relatively old horse with his first crop of yearlings in Australia being born in 2004. His first crop in Chile was dropped in 1995. He is a super stallion and was brought to Australia by John Messara to be used as a suitable cross with the large number of Danehill line mares in this country.

Once again Messara was right on the money!

I have a very good filly with Tony Gollan named Hijack Hussy by Hussonet out of a Redoute's Choice mare. She won the Listed Lexus Plate at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.  The only other Hussonet filly I purchased was the stakes winner Huiskes.

Head Over Heels

Head Over Heels is by the great sire Fastnet Rock which has worked so well with Husson with three of his twelve winners to date from this cross of Husson over Fastnet Rock mares. This includes the stakes filly Little Miss Smiley. Head Over Heels brings a lot to the table here being a half-sister to the very good sprinter, Presently as well as Another Time which was placed in the Black Opal Stakes.

It is very early days for Fastnet Rock as a broodmare sire.  It is hard to imagine Fastnet Rock not being a successful broodmare sire.

Her half-sister Gifted Lass is the dam of the Group 2 placed Serena Miss.  Head Over Heels is out of the Centaine mare Centaine’s Gift.  It doesn’t get much better than this.

I AM INVINCIBLE OUT OF NICE SURPRISE (NZ) KRIS LEES TO TRAIN -10 SHARES @ $17,800 - ONLY ONE REMAINS

The filly

The filly pictured above is a cracking filly by the outstanding young sire I Am Invincible.  She is very athletic and caught my eye when I was doing my pre-sale inspections at Yarraman Park in early December.  She has a touch of class and when she grows into her frame will be quite a strong girl.

She has a great temperament which was highlighted by her excellent attitude at the Magic Millions Sale where she was paraded many times in a tough week with oppressive weather making conditions difficult.

I love the quality I Am Invincible puts into his stock.  When you walk into a paddock of weanlings or yearlings they stand out.  Good heads, athletic, great coats and almost without exception a keen healthy eye.

This filly has it all.  She will be broken in in late February and then have a break before heading to Kris Lees for her first preparation.  She has done very well since we purchased her and is back at Yarraman Park for a break before heading to the breakers.

I Am Invincible

I Am Invincible was Australia’s Leading First season Sire in 2013/14 Season by both stakes money and individual winners.  In fact in his first season he gapped the opposition with as many winners as the next three sires on the list.  See table below:

His progeny have proved he was no flash in the pan coming out in their three year old year being more dominant than in the first season.  This season he has had 30 individual winners from 63 to hit the track.  He only trails Fastnet Rock as the leading sire of three year old winners in Australia this season.

I Am invincible had his service fee raised to $27,500 last breeding season and was fully booked out in a matter of days and Yarraman Park have already had requests for 200 mares for the stallion in the coming season.

I am thrilled to have this filly join our team and look forward to her wearing our colours.

Nice Surprise (NZ)

Nice Surprise is a Sydney Metropolitan winner and was Stakes Placed in the PJ Bell Stakes at Royal Randwick.  She has a good pedigree being by Champion Miler Spinning World.  Spinning World has been a success as a broodmare sire with 31 stakes winners to his credit including three Group 1 winners.

The best known to race out of his daughters in Australia include Miss Stellabelle, Mouro, So Pristine and Little Surfer Girl.
