Trainer Enver Jusufovic is resisting the immediate temptation of aiming too high with talented sprinter O'Malley.
The lightly raced gelding will be having his second run back from a spell when he lines up in the Sportingbet Quick Multis Handicap, a benchmark 84 race over 1000m on the Hillside track at Sandown on Saturday.
O'Malley returned from a break with an impressive come from behind victory at Moonee Valley on January 24 and Jusufovic says his horse will relish getting onto the bigger track.
While the son of Street Boss is a galloper with loads of potential, Jusufovic is in no rush to test the gelding against the better sprinters.
"He's just into his second race preparation," Jusufovic said.
"I really just want to educate the horse and go through his classes.
After winning a Tatura maiden, O'Malley finished second at his next two starts starts before winning on the Sandown-Hillside track and then at Flemington.
Jusufovic gave the gelding a brief let-up before testing the water in tougher company when fifth to Flamberge in Group Three company at Caulfield in August.
But for the time being Jusufovic said Saturday's company was his right class and pointed out O'Malley would strip fitter for his first-up win at Moonee Valley.
"He wasn't primed first-up so there is certainly more improvement to come," Jusufovic said.
"This is his class and this is the way for him to progress.
"He's a very talented galloper and is a horse that knows where the line is."
