Paul Messara would prefer to split Scissor Kick and Panzer Division but the trainer is resigned to the best horses in his stable being on a collision course for their next two starts.
The stablemates will clash in the Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday against Group One winners Preferment, Shooting To Win, Hallowed Crown and Hampton Court.
Messara's pair have the advantage of a recent run but while the trainer managed to keep them apart first-up, he says the Hobartville is a necessary carnival stepping stone for both colts.
"I would like to (split them up) but they're going to meet in the Hobartville," Messara said.
"At the moment they're both heading in that direction towards the (Randwick) Guineas and we'll see how they go."
Both horses are prominent in early markets with Scissor Kick at $5 and Panzer Division $7.50.
Scissor Kick returned a winner in the Eskimo Prince Stakes two weeks ago while Panzer Division finished fourth in the weight-for-age Expressway Stakes in an effort Messara said had merit.
"He actually ran his fastest sectional of the race between the 800 (metres) and 600 (metres) which is never an ideal thing to do," Messara said of Panzer Division.
"It just took away from his final 100 metres where I thought he was going to get over the top of them and didn't."
Delectation, runner-up to Scissor Kick in the Eskimo Prince, will have Glyn Schofield in the saddle to replace Hugh Bowman who is committed to Hallowed Crown.
Group One placed in the spring and the most highly rated of Waller's three Hobartville runners, Delectation appeals to Schofield as a genuine chance.
Schofield came close to winning last year's Hobartville when Atlante was narrowly beaten by Dissident.
"If he can get into a good rhythm and be comfortable in the race without trying to overdo things I'm sure he will give that race a good shout," Schofield said.
"He's going to take a bit of improvement out of his first run and he'll be in this race up to his ears."
