Pitt Street winning the Muswellbrook Cup
Pitt Street was a great advertisement for our company. I purchased him as a weanling from Lindsay Park and he went on to win 8 races and $380,170 in stakes money. His best win was probably in the Tamworth Cup but he almost pulled off a coup when the closest of second placing behind Tasmania’s super horse Geegees Blackflash in the Conquering Plate in Launceston a couple of starts ago.
In the end his knees had had enough and he will have a great future as an equestrian horse. I know his loyal group of owners will miss him but it is great he was able to be retired sound enough to have a worthwhile future. Recently I was able to visit Under Command, also retired in Tasmania but looking much younger than his 15 years would suggest he is. It is very important to me that these good horses that have given us so much pleasure have a good life in retirement.
ON THE TRACK
Unfortunately we have a number of horses ready to race in Queensland and with the arrival of the cyclonic weather I doubt if we will see too much racing in the Sunshine State over the next week.
In any case we have a number of horses wearing our colours over the next few days. These include Hot To Trot, Rumeron and Atalanta Miss in Launceston. Hazy Blur is set to run at Port Macquarie tomorrow or at Scone on Monday depending on the weather.
TASMANIAN YEARLING
Tough Speed Vickers colt
In 2013 I purchased Charlie and Leuella two yearlings with the other being Bella Venus. These two nice fillies have won seven races this season from just 12 starts.
At the recent Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale I purchased Charlie and Leuella a cracking colt out of Vickers, a good Flying Spur mare that was trained by Bill Mitchell. Vickers, a Flemington, Caulfield and Sandown winner has had four winners from six to race including LuckyI’mbarefoot the winner of 8 races and $267,061 in stakes money. The colt is by Tough Speed (USA), the sire of the good horses Black ‘n’ Tough (13 wins and $285,750) and Banca Mo (11 wins and $514,000).
I will have this horse on the market next week but expect to have him on offer at $5,800 per 10% share ($2,800 for 5% shares).
I expect this colt to run at two but for him to be at his best as a three and four year old. He’s a ripper and really caught my eye. I’d expect he could well be the type of horse that could develop into a Cup’s horse in time.
This fellow sees us give Charlie and Leuella three yearlings this year which is very positive after a number of very tough years in Tasmania.
YEARLING SALES
I have been thrilled with the response to our yearlings and my aim is to tidy up the remaining shares over the next six weeks. I will be attending the Inglis Premier Sale and Magic Millions Adelaide Sale with the intention to buy a couple more yearlings.
