Trainer Nigel Blackiston has elected to take on weight-for-age company rather than a mares race at Caulfield on Saturday with the talented Suavito.
Blackiston said Suavito would tackle the Group One Futurity Stakes (1400m) instead on the Mannerism Stakes over the same trip.
"I could have run her in a mares race where she would be carrying 58 or 59 (kg) whereas at weight-for-age she'll carry 55," Blackiston said.
"I thought it was a better option to start her off in."
Suavito had a successful spring with a Group Three win at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day followed by victory at Flemington in a Group Two race for mares over 2000m on November 8.
Blackiston said Suavito had enjoyed a good break in the paddock following her last campaign and had put on plenty of condition.
She has been conditioned with two jump-outs and the trainer says her performance on Saturday will determine her next start.
The Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 14 and the Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on the same day are the options as a lead-in to The Championships in Sydney.
"Whichever race we decide to run in will then lead us in to either the Doncaster or the Queen Of The Turf," Blackiston said.
Damien Oliver, who rode Suavito to her wins at Moonee Valley and Flemington has been booked for Saturday.
Nominations have been extended with just eight horses entered on Monday.
C F Orr Stakes winner Dissident, imported galloper Guest Of Honour, Driefontein, Entirely Platinum, Smoking Joey, Bonaria and Sertorius have been entered with Sertorius already an unlikely runner.
