Liam Birchley and Travis Wolfgram are hoping for a rapid turn around in fortunes when Syn City returns to racing at Doomben.
Wolfgram rode the Birchley-trained short-priced favourite Sagatona at Ipswich on Wednesday but she was pulled out of the race with an injured foreleg.
Syn City, who runs in Saturday's 1050m two-year-old race, won her debut at Toowoomba in late September.
She was well fancied in the Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley on October 25 but finished a distant 12th behind Blue Diamond Stakes favourite Fontiton.
Birchley said little could be taken from the Moonee Valley run.
"In Melbourne they scope horses after the race and she had a lot of mucus in her airwaves. It was no guide to her ability," Birchley said.
He had been hoping to give Syn City a jump-out or trial in the lead up to Saturday's race but was stymied by wet weather.
"It is hard to get a line on her," Birchley said.
"Saturday's run will give us a better idea of whether we stay here or head off to Sydney for the autumn."
Despite Birchley's uncertainty, Syn City was the TAB's $4.20 favourite on Friday.
She is raced by a syndicate headed by Mark McLean who also races Hardline who won New Zealand's richest race, the Karaka Million, in January.
Birchley said Hardline was likely to miss both the autumn and Brisbane winter to be set for spring races.
