The decision to keep Bonaria against her own sex at Caulfield rather than chase another Group One victory, sits well with trainer Pat Hyland.
The winner of the Group One Myer Classic last spring, Bonaria is having her last campaign before she is retired to stud.
She was nominated for the Group One Futurity Stakes on Saturday's program but Hyland decided on the Group Three Premier Signs Stakes (1400m).
He said he entered Bonaria for the Futurity because of rumours of a small field.
"They ended up with eight runners in the Futurity so I think we made the right decision," Hyland said.
"She's a mare and there was a mare's race on the program and while the money looked good in the Futurity, we decided to go this way."
Hyland said Bonaria would head to Flemington on March 14 and then go to Sydney for the $1 million weight-for-age Queen Of The Turf (1600m) on April 11.
However, if there was a wet track for the $3 million Doncaster Mile a week earlier, Hyland said he would be tempted to take on all comers.
"She's in the Doncaster and if it was wet we may go to that," Hyland said.
"That sort of race could be very attractive for her. She sits back and with plenty of pace on, she can get home strongly and she'd get home pretty well with 51 (kilograms) on her back."
