Bede Murray is doing his best to have weight of numbers in his favour for the $300,000 Provincial Championship Final at Randwick next month.
The veteran trainer qualified two more runners on his home track at Kembla Grange on Friday when he prepared the quinella as Darci Magic ($6) defeated O'Reilly's Revenge ($8) with a last-stride win.
Newcastle trainer Kris Lees will also have multiple representation as Parraay qualified after taking the minor placing.
Darci Magic and O'Reilly's Revenge will take their place alongside the Murray-trained Sure And Fast, an impressive winner of a Wyong heat last week and the horse which is Murray's early tip for Randwick.
"I know the two horses here today are fair horses but Sure And Fast is very good," Murray said.
Darci Magic emerged from the pack for James McDonald to chase down his stablemate and win by a head with Parraay ($11) a long neck away third.
"Darci Magic has matured a lot and I couldn't believe how relaxed he was before the race," Murray said.
"But most of the credit should probably go to the second horse because he had to work a bit too much to get to the front."
Murray will also try to qualify Darci's Affair and Fiercely Defiant for the final at Randwick on April 11.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Excess Knowledge came from last to win the Bert Lillye Memorial in a win that gave odds-on backers a scare even if jockey James McDonald wasn't worried.
A European import, Excess Knowledge conceded the leaders seven lengths into the straight before winning in the last stride.
"He only did what he had to do to win the race and he feels to me if you wanted him to find another length he would," McDonald said.
