Craig Williams is convinced there are much bigger wins in store for imported mare Telopea after her performance at Sandown on Wednesday.
The four-year-old landed her third successive victory in Australia with a first-up success in the Read The William Hill Blog Handicap (1400m).
Sent to Australia by Paul Fudge of Waratah Thoroughbreds after her debut in France in 2013, Telopea was successful at Bendigo and Cranbourne before trainer Darren Weir sent her for a break.
Williams said Telopea's pedigree suggested she was a quality animal and her conformation supported that assessment.
"She's got black type quality written all over her," Williams said.
"She's an attractive looking horse. She's got an attractive pedigree and she's been really well managed since arriving in Australia."
Williams said the mare had a tough run on Wednesday after covering ground but knuckled down to her task in the straight to beat Lucky Romance by a half-length.
"She didn't have any favours out there today but to power away like she did, all credit to Darren Weir," Williams said.
"To have the will to win against a tough, fit horse that also had a claim, it's a good result."
Weir said he would look for a Saturday metropolitan race for Telopea before he raised the bar to black type company.
