Wendy Kelly will learn a lot more about her promising galloper Fast Cash after he contests the Bendigo Guineas on Saturday.
Fast Cash is a winner of two of his seven starts and Kelly said the 1400m Listed race will tell her whether the gelding is purely a sprinter or whether he can handle some ground.
She said it was first time the three-year-old had drawn a midfield barrier where he can get cover and relax.
"We're going there to win but we'll hopefully learn something more about him as well," Kelly said.
"We're in two minds as to whether he's a genuine 1200-metre horse that requires the speed on or whether he's a horse that will take a sit and relax enough to get the 1400 metres and maybe a little further.
"Because of the barriers he's been drawing he's been getting out and charging lately or as he did in his early days, jump, go to sleep, and get back.
"He's got to learn that happy medium.
"That's why tomorrow is important for us to find out whether he's a sprinter or whether he will get a little further."
