A sleepless night couldn't stop apprentice Patrick Moloney from producing a perfect ride aboard Oltre Finito in the 3BO Trophy at Bendigo on Saturday.
Just over 15 hours earlier, Moloney collected his first black-type victory when Chill Party took out the Group Two Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Moloney, who's apprenticed to his father Gerard and does the bulk of the riding for his uncle John, found it hard to switch off after Friday night's meeting.
"I was pretty pumped up and barely got any sleep to be honest," he said.
"The old man was the same with the Group Two win.
"It was a fantastic result last night and to top it off with a winner to start off a big day is great."
Moloney had Oltre Finito ($8.50) in a perfect spot tracking the speed, with his biggest worry being getting the gelding to switch off.
He said the gelding showed a good turn of foot to push into the clear when a gap appeared in the straight and he sustained a strong run to the line to score by three-quarters-of-a-length from Live For Today ($21).
Trainer Mark Kavanagh praised Moloney, saying the young jockey is riding with great confidence.
